This morning is very exciting for me. Tonight we will have our very first class for our young girls down at the Center. Yesterday we called all the girls' Mom's to remind them of tonight. I talked with one Mom who told me that her daughter K, just had a tumor removed from her spine. She said she is paralyzed temporarily but was looking forward to coming to the class so she will be there tonight. So if you are reading this pray for K.
Our topic tonight is True Beauty. We will probably be on this topic for a long period of time as girls and women alike are bombarded everyday of how the world defines beauty. We will be teaching the girls about the beauty that lasts, from 1Peter 3:3-4: "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight." I am bringing with me pictures of entertainers before and after make up (which I have put quite a few in a previous post below) and I am also bringing examples of air brushing. There is too much pressure on our girls and us women, to be in a certain size, wear a certain type of clothing, look like this one look like that one.....um, they don't even look like that!!! It is unbelievable how if a girl does not fit a certain size she is considered fat. I look at myself and laugh every time I think of my body being in a 2 or a 4....with how I am built that would be so ridiculous to even make a goal for something like that. But this is the pressure that is put on our girls all the time. Entertainers also set the bar on how you are supposed to act.....really....our girls imitate who they look up to. If they are looking up to people who are a size 2, drinking, doing drugs and seen everywhere with a different guy---that's what they want to do....because then they will be accepted by their peers.
God always had a different plan. These girls need to know they are beautiful. That a loving, kind God knit them together in their mother's wombs & thought of a plan for their lives before they even came to earth. They need to know real beauty has nothing to do with size, clothing, boyfriends, acceptance......it's how the Lord sees you.
I try to be very careful of the advertisements and shows that my daughter has been exposed to...my daugther to me is gorgeous, to God she is beautiful and I believe she has the esteem that she is accepted by Christ and there is noone to impress....She knows these women are "made up" to look like they do and to look like that on a daily basis is ridiculous and untrue and some type of fairy tale. I am hoping she is always like that & I am hoping that we can reach the girls with this and let them know how really beautiful they are....no matter what the world says.....God does not make ugly.
They will have homework. Their homework will be to write something out about what they think is real beauty vs. what the world may be telling them. If they are given the opportunity to go to a market or read a magazine, watching TV, that they write their thoughts down on what kind of 'beauty' is being portrayed and what their thoughts are on it.
God is in control tonight, that is most of the excitement, is wondering what He will do tonight.
I will be back later to tell you all about how our class went.
looking forward to it!
