This post has to be a little boastful of my daughter. She amazes me in many ways. Today she graduated from elementary school. She received a great report card & an award in art---I am so proud of her. The day started out very hot. We were both dressed up and ready to go. I arrive as the first parent (that's ok, because early bird gets the worm) I was able to snag the front seat reserved for parents of 6th graders & the best picture taking spot in the gymnasium. My daughter's school is not big, 34 kids moved up from 6th grade. I was amazed however that they only had one or two fans going in there! It was quite warm.
I did like the traditions they had there. One was the passing a carnation from the parent to the student. What kind of amazed me was, people were making a puzzle out of it....The directions were simple: Stand in line, when your child passes through hand him/her the carnation on their way to the stage. Very simple eh? Well....for about 15 minutes it went something like this:
"Where do I stand?"
"This flower?"
"Who am I giving it to?"
"When?"
"Are they carrying it on stage or are we taking it back from them?"
Eventually it went off without a hitch and all the kids received a carnation----except one classmate of my daughter's....I saw her teacher give her one....I started to ache for her immediately...really don't know the exact reason why...I could get carried away about it all but I give it to the Lord.
Afterwards, there was a time of saying good bye to the school superintendant who is retiring after 41 years. Then they again, had another tradition which was neat....The lowest grade (kindergarten) handed a flag off to the preschoolers, and then the 1st graders handed their's off to the kindergartners....etc...up to 6th grade. The kids handled it with no problem what so ever!!! No glitches or nothing....nothing like the carnations!!!
Then we came home for a bit, I searched on line for art lessons in the connecting city & tap dance lessons. She is very interested in those things and I have found some information I am going to check on. Then started filling out the soccer paperwork for the Fall--never ends...
Afterwards, I brought her up to the American Legion for a dinner given by the school for the 6th graders & their families----I feel like a fish out of water---I don't know anyone here. Dinner was ziti, chicken, salad, fries.....my table company of other parents, well they all knew each other and talked amongst themselves.....All the parents & families had to leave at 7 so the kids could have a little dance (supervised) until 10. So at 10 I have to walk back up to the Legion (pray for me) and pick her up then come home and get ready for work tomorrow----I am usually 'settling' at that time.....
But I just thought I would boast a little today of my daughter...Thank You Lord for blessing me with her.....
Shaniya is a beautiful and smart girl. You should be proud of her!!! :-)
