Truth of Christ

'But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of .......themselves.' (2 Timothy 3:1-2). Yes there is more to this Scripture but I wanted to 'split it up' per se. I wanted to concentrate--pay attention to each part-----word of the Scripture itself. People will be lovers of themselves in the last days? Does Paul hit it on the head or what? We are in an 'It's All About Me' society, let me correct that world.  If I don't like it then hey I don't have to do it. If it doesn't make me feel good, then I don't need it. If I want to spend all my life on myself than that is ok. If it doesn't line up with my own thoughts, considerations, conclusions, then it's ok if I don't accept it.

Let me define the word selfish for you. Selfish:  devoted to or caring only for oneself; concerned primarily with one's own interests, benefits, welfare, etc., regardless of others. (dictionary.reference.com) (selfishness).

I hear it all the time, "What about me?" "What can I get out of this situation?" "What can that person do for me?" "What can I gain?" "Is this person or situation going to benefit me?" "Will I make any money?" "Will I feel good doing this?"  I can go on forever..........can't I?

Unfortunately, words and thoughts, motives and actions like this are not just out there in the world.....they are in our churches, pews, seats, Sunday schools, Men's/Ladies/Teens Bible studies.....They are being brought in from the world.....and unfortunately a lot of churches are falling for it. They do things to make people comfortable and/or 'we do not want to offend anybody' and/or 'for the good of all' and/or (and yes I have heard it) 'to be accepting of and to the world'.....My question is SINCE WHEN?......How comfortable do you think Jesus was getting whipped? How comfortable do you think He was hanging from that cross? How comfortable were the disciples when they were being imprisoned, beaten & martyred? How comfortable was Paul being persecuted? Comfortable? We are not supposed to be comfortable.....If life is easy & comfortable we are doing it all wrong. We are supposed have thorns, thickets, trials, tribulations, drinking poisons, being attacked, HATED BY THE WORLD. If the world loves us we are doing it wrong.....How offended do you think Jesus was when they were calling Him all kinds of names? Planning His arrest and crucifixion? Spitting on Him? Call Him the son of Beelzebub? How offended?  We are not to offend people? Are you serious? How are we going to get the Gospel out there to the world if we don't stop this "feel good" "let's not offend or upset anybody attitude" HOW? When Jesus went all over He offended people, a lot of people. The truth HURTS, it's UNCOMFORTABLE.  Being made aware of sin is not something taken lightly or comfortably.....For the good of all? Accepting of and to the world? No. The Bible says we are not of this world. We are not part of this world. We are to be separate from this world. That Jesus came with a sword not peace. Telling someone they are going to Hell is not going to make them like you.

Lovers of themselves? Yes people are definitely. Unfortunately, sad to say we are watching a lot of churches falling for that and catering to the world instead standing steadfast in the WORD.

Get straight, repent, stand on the Truth of Christ and His Word. We, who call ourselves His.....it's not supposed to be an easy road.

  2. I just wanted to say 'amen' to your post. It was a blessing to read. The Word is a sword ... it cuts, hurts, divides, etc. Jesus and His followers did not smooth things over; they preached the Truth. Yes, it offended many ... but to those who were honest seekers of truth and light, it brought freedom (with persecutions!).

    Lord bless you, js
